8K a year The Mold Maker is responsible for building, modifying, or repairing injection and blow molds.
This employee will set up and operate a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, EDM (electrical discharge machines) and CNC (computer numerically controlled) machines.
Repairs and mold modifications are made following blueprints, verbal, and written instructions.
He or she will troubleshoot mold problems and make recommendations for improvements.
This employee must be safety conscious at all times.
Responsibilities:
The following duties are considered essential to this position.
Other responsibilities may be assigned.
Review blueprints and other instructions to modify or repair molds as required.
Determine a safe, accurate, and efficient method of machining or repairing the required parts.
When possible, modify, or repair the mold while it is in the press.
Lift molds and work pieces in a safe and efficient manner.
This may include using assists such as hoists.
Position work for machining and assembly.
This may require using machine tables, chucks, or other fixtures.
Select the machine and the machine tool setup for each task.
Considerations may include cutting tool and feed rate.
Select materials for mold modifications and repairs.
Disassemble and re-assemble molds as required.
Inspect molds for wear and damage.
Prepare new molds for production.
Inspect the mold to ensure that purchase specifications were met.
Ensure that the mold is able to run in the specified press without damage to either the mold or the press.
Machine parts for mold modifications and mold repairs.
Inspect parts to ensure they meet dimensional and functional requirements.
Test electrical systems in the mold.
Repair or replace defective components.
Test hydraulic systems in the mold.
Repair or replace defective components.
Work to ensure modifications and repairs are done within the production deadline.
Check in new molds when received from vendors.
Complete appropriate documents and procedures.
Drive a forklift to transport and store molds.
Ensure all safety rules are followed at all times.
Build new molds.
Assist with the training of less experienced employees.
Evaluate the progress of less experienced tool room employees.
Stay informed of new technology, methods, and materials within the field.
Support and comply with all Suncast safety policies, quality standards, and housekeeping methods at all times.
Suncast policies have been developed to ensure compliance with employee law.
Requirements:

High school diploma plus certificate of completion from an approved apprentice program or journeyman's card required.
Minimum ten years of experience in a machine tool shop required.
Advanced machining skill proficiency in using a broad range of machine equipment and tools.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals.
Ability to read and interpret blue prints and schematics.
Ability to write short memos and records concerning work completed.
Ability to communicate with managers, engineers, and coworkers.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts and fundamentals of algebra, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form.
Basic PC skills required.
Ability to use Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines.
Ability to use a computer for data entry.
Ability to use Excel, Microsoft Word, other Suncast programs necessary.
AutoCad and GibbsCam skills are a strong plus.

This is a physically active position in a manufacturing facility.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk within tool room and manufacturing areas, climb stairs and fixed ladders, stoop, kneel, effectively communicate with others, and use active listening skills.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
The employee must be able to use power assists to lift heavy objects in a safe manner.
Vision ability requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
This is a full-time position.
Due to variations in production schedules, this employee may be required to work additional hours, including weekends, to meet additional needs.

Safety equipment will be worn regularly.
