Research Associate

Postdoctoral Research Associate The Fermilab Quantum Science Program (http://qis.fnal.gov/) is seeking PhDs in the fields of Physics, Quantum Science, Mathematics, or Computer Science, to explore algorithms and computational infrastructure for Quantum Computing as a postdoctoral researcher. Position Description Fermilab is seeking a candidate for a postdoctoral researcher position as a part of its newly-established quantum science program. This position will have an emphasis on quantum algorithm development for high-energy physics, as well as toolkits and infrastructure to enable hybrid quantum/classical applications to access state-of-the-art quantum computing facilities.  The program includes projects exploring optimization and machine learning on quantum systems. Through these projects, we collaborate directly with other DOE labs, academic institutions, and industry. Our partners include Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Google, and Rigetti Computing. One goal is to interface HEPCloud, the HEP (High Energy Physics) common computing infrastructure access system, too many quantum computing facilities through interactive notebooks and batch processing. The candidates will also work on the development of competing for classical algorithms and aid in organizing tutorials. Applicants for this position should hold a PhD degree in physics, QIS, computer science, or related field, with a focus on quantum science.  Preference will be given to candidates with prior research experience in quantum algorithms, experience with quantum toolkits, and experience with running jobs on existing machines and simulators. Applicants should have a record of peer-reviewed journal publications.
