Quantum Associate Scientist

The Theoretical Physics Department at Fermilab is seeking candidates for one Associate Scientist position in the area of theoretical quantum information science (QIS), working at its interface with fundamental physics and quantum field theory. This position is for a five-year term, starting in 2019. It is equivalent to a tenure-track faculty position at a university having the possibility of leading to an appointment without time limit. An appointment at the level of Scientist or Senior Scientist, equivalent to a tenured Associate Professor or Full Professor at a university, is open for consideration depending on the candidate's expertise. We are seeking a candidate with a doctorate in theoretical physics who has demonstrated exceptional creativity and a high level of competence in his/her research. QIS is a growing research direction for the Fermilab theoretical physics department, which has an existing strong research program in Lattice QCD, Perturbative QCD, Neutrino Physics, Dark Matter and physics beyond the standard model. The Theory QIS initiative at Fermilab is part of a new collaboration with the Institute for Quantum Information and Matter at Caltech and the Institute for Nuclear Theory at the University of Washington. Topics of interest include: Quantum simulation of quantum field theories describing strongly coupled systems. Tensor networks, their utility for simulation and their connections to quantum gravity. Quantum algorithms for traditional HEP computational problems. Applying quantum technologies and quantum sensors to probe fundamental physics. The successful candidate will play a central role in the newly launched Fermilab Quantum Science Program (https://qis.fnal.gov/). This program includes a variety of experimental and theoretical research directions carried out in synergy with academic and industry partners. In addition to activities in the Theoretical Physics Department, examples of synergistic activities include SRF cavities for quantum computing, quantum teleportation experiments, the use of qubits as quantum sensors for dark matter searches, as well as connections between Fermilab's Scientific computing division and quantum computing industry partners. Qualifications and Essential Job Functions Ph.D. in Physics or relevant subject. 2+ years of postdoctoral experience. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
